About Domain Name Search

Domain Name Search checks real registry data in real time, so you can see straight away whether a name is free on a Nigerian extension (.ng, .com.ng, .org.ng, .net.ng, .i.ng, .name.ng, .mobi.ng) or a global one such as .com, .org, .africa, .io, .store and more.

How the check works

  • RDAP — we query the authoritative registry over HTTPS (the modern replacement for WHOIS). A "not found" answer from the registry means the name is genuinely unregistered.
  • DNS — if a registry's RDAP service is unavailable, we check whether the name is delegated (has name servers). This is a strong secondary signal and is labelled as likely rather than confirmed.
  • Nothing is a guess: every result tells you which source answered and when it was checked.

Nigerian domains (.ng and second levels)

.ng is Nigeria's country-code top-level domain, administered by NiRA (Nigeria Internet Registration Association) and sold through accredited registrars. The most popular choice for businesses is .com.ng, with .ng, .org.ng and .net.ng as common alternatives. Extensions such as .gov.ng, .edu.ng, .sch.ng and .mil.ng are restricted — you must prove eligibility (government body, accredited school, or military institution) before they can be issued.

Registration and renewal prices are set by each registrar, so compare a few NiRA-accredited registrars before you pay. Always complete the purchase on the registrar's own website.

Tips for picking a name

  • Keep it short, easy to spell over the phone and free of hyphens.
  • Prefer .com.ng or .ng for a Nigerian audience — it signals local trust and helps with local search.
  • Grab the matching social handles at the same time.
  • Already took the .com? Register the .com.ng too so nobody trades on your brand.

Availability is checked live, but registry data can lag by a few minutes. Always confirm on the registrar's checkout page before paying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Searching, checking availability and reading the domain suggestions are completely free and need no sign-up. You only pay the registrar when you decide to register a name.
.ng is the short Nigerian country-code domain (example.ng) and .com.ng is its commercial second level (example.com.ng). Both are administered by NiRA and both work well for Nigerian businesses; .com.ng is usually the cheaper and more familiar option, while .ng is shorter and more premium.
Results come straight from the registry (RDAP) or from live DNS delegation. When the registry answers, the result is marked "confirmed". When the registry cannot be reached and we fall back to DNS, the result is marked "likely" — always confirm on the registrar checkout page before paying.
No. Toolxify only checks availability. Registration must be completed with a NiRA-accredited registrar — we give you links to popular ones so you can compare prices.
Those extensions are reserved for government institutions, accredited academic institutions and the military. You must supply supporting documents to NiRA through a registrar before the domain can be issued.
Yes. Tick as many extensions as you like — they are checked in parallel and each result appears as soon as it comes back. Results are cached for a few hours so repeat searches are instant.
Try the "Name ideas" section, which generates variations using prefixes and suffixes such as my-, get-, -hq, -hub and -ng. You can also choose another extension: a .com.ng is often still free when the .com is gone.
